Canberra International Sports & Aquatic centre (CISAC) is the largest privately developed indoor centre of its type in Australia & Australia’s newest Indoor Sports & aquatic centre.

Designed by Western Australian based Architects, Peter Hunt & Associates, the centre was developed at a cost of $20,000,000.00 to facilitate the sporting requirements of the north side of Canberra, which services a population of approx 150,000.

CISAC has been funded & developed by a local Canberra family development company KGroup Pty Ltd, under their Sports Centres Australia banner.

Aquatic supervision from design stage through to construction and commissioning has been by Adelaide based company, Victor K de Fontenay & Assoc, to ensure that all aquatic components met the latest standards & requirements in design and water treatment.

The pool related facilities comprise of a full size 51.5m x 25m Olympic Competition pool, a 25m x 12.5m lap/warm-up pool, and a 20 - person spa pool. The 500m2 leisure pool has 11 different water feature options, and includes a 35m water slide.

The water treatment of the pools combines the use of high rate Chadson sand filters using Zelbrite media from Zeolite Australia. Zelbrite was chosen because of its fine filtration quality, and its ability to remove ammonia from the pool water.

All chemical control is handled by Acu-trol Programmable Controllers which are monitored full time both internally & outside the centre via internet connection.

As a result of "stage three" water restrictions being introduced in Canberra, which would have seen drastic reductions in the landscaping areas, Vic de Fontenay proposed a plan which now sees four underground tanks holding a total of 500,000 litres of rain water from the building roofs being used to irrigate the enlarged landscaping. This is supplemented by water from a bore drilled on the property & treatment of the bore water using a Hydrosmart water treatment system to control chemical build up in pipework & sprinklers.

During its first two weeks of operation CISAC has attendances of 2500-3000 people a day in what is considered to be a quiet time in Canberra.
